EatWell App
Transform Surplus into Support – Revolutionizing Food Donation Sign up to Donate or become a Community Based Organization Partner
What is EatWell?
EatWell is a virtual food pantry that addresses food waste and food insecurity. EatWell feeds people, not the landfill. It is a forward-thinking mobile app that connects edible food generators—like restaurants, stores, and school and hospital cafeterias—to people in need.
Food recovery organizations and food banks are the main outlet for food generators, with a consistent need for food items – EatWell is a solution to the challenges that can make donation difficult. Challenges vary and can include timing of food availability, quantity of food offered, and other logistics such as storage, or inability to transport perishable items. EatWell doesn’t replace the great programs that these organizations run; it is a supplement to ensure all good food can get to the people who need it!
Key Benefits:
- Supports community members in need – Reduces edible food waste
- Eliminates donation barriers – Meets SB 1383 record-keeping
- Provides tax deduction eligibility records requirements

Secure – EatWell provides a secure platform where edible food generators can safely donate unsold/unserved food, instead of throwing it away.
Direct Donation – Through partnerships with local non-profits EatWell ensures that the donated food goes directly to people in need avoiding many challenges to donation such as transportation or storage of excess food until an organization can pick it up.
Tax Deduction Benefits – EatWell provides the necessary documentation for tax deduction purposes. Tax deductions for donated food are typically higher than those for food loss. Ask your tax professional for details on how this could benefit your business.
Tracking – EatWell’s automated system tracks and documents every donation in real-time, ensuring compliance with SB 1383 recordkeeping mandates and IRS requirements for tax deduction purposes – eliminating paperwork headaches.
SB1383 – EatWell ensures compliance with California’s SB 1383 mandates. SB 1383 regulations require edible food generators, whether considered Tier 1 or Tier 2, to arrange to recover the maximum amount of edible food that would otherwise be disposed. Generators subject to the regulation include stores and restaurants above a certain size, large venues and events, schools and hospitals with on-site food facilities, and others. The regulations also have other specific requirements such as recordkeeping. Visit CalRecycle’s SB 1383 page to find the regulations.
Social Impact Story – Feed those in need in your community and tell a powerful social impact story. For every $1 a company invests in food waste reduction, they can expect a $14 return on investment.
Verified – with endorsement from Harvard Law School’s Food Law and Policy Clinic, our documentation is verified as accepted by the IRS for tax donation deduction purposes. Ask your tax professional for details on how this may benefit your business!
